I went for a little walk yesterday, just a short one to go read a plaque on the side of the road. Less than a quarter mile. By the time I came upon the plaque I knew I had made a terrible mistake not to don my hat. The breeze picked up and my ears went from burning cold to numb. Removing my gloves and cupping my ears I hurried back to the car, the longest quarter mile ever. Lesson learned. Never leave the warm embrace of those states whose borders touch on Mexico or the Gulf of Mexico.
